FLOODING ISSUES

Work is well under way at the area between the 1st green and the 18th tee as can be seen in the pictures below. The drainage from the lake has now been put in place and this caused a fair amount of damage between the 18th tee through to the Paddy Burn in front of the 6th tee but the Head Greenkeeper has made all the repairs and is confident that all will be well for the start of the season in this area.

Lake6th Tee

Work on the burn across the 1st fairway commenced this week.

The problems in front of the 8th tee seem to have been resolved with the uncovering of an old drainage pipe 30 yards out to sea. Hopefully this matter is now an issue of the past.

OVERSEAS MEMBERSHIP

Council have introduced a category of membership that will allow golfers from foreign parts to join the club at a subscription equal to 60% of the ordinary member’s rate. Members in this category will only be able to play 12 rounds of golf each year and will have no voting rights. Full details are available from the office.

ASSOCIATE MEMBERSHIP

Council have also introduced a category of membership called Associate Membership and this category is open to current members who have been required to move outwith the area (150 miles), have been injured or have an illness that prevents them playing golf. Members applying for this category of membership will require to apply in writing to 2/3 11 March 2008 Council and if successful will be eligible for an 80% reduction in their subscription. Members in this category who move back into the area or whose illness or injury abates will be able to return to full membership via the top of the waiting list as soon as a vacancy exists and will not be required to pay an entrance fee. This category of membership will be restricted to six rounds of golf per year.

Both Overseas and Associate Membership Categories will be put to the 2009 Annual General Meeting for ratification.

DEER PARK PROJECT

This continues to cause much work especially with meetings with Councillors, Historic Scotland, Planners, Economic Development, Architects etc but we are moving ahead and in real terms we are moving fairly fast, mainly as a result of the building project experts that are on the Development Committee. Having said all this there is not a great deal to report other than we have not (yet) come across any major objections to our basic concept of a driving range, short game practice are, nine hole short course and of course a new clubhouse, all financed by an enabling project in the Deer Park and the current practice area. Many loops are still too jumped through but we are certainly moving along very positively.

THE GRAHAM WOOD TESTIMONIAL

An amazing response has seen 39 teams apply to play in this event therefore it would appear that our original idea of a one off shotgun start will require to be re thought. If any of you out there who know of anyone who is contemplating entering a team please make sure that they contact the office as soon as possible. The first of four Club Raffles for a team in this event was won by Sandy Leitch. Sandy is now very popular with his friends or, at least two of them as he can now pick another two people to play alongside him and a Professional or Celebrity in the tournament. The winning ticket was drawn by Past Captain James Mason, the second raffle is already well under way and is available at the bar. Graham himself is now no longer an employee of the Club and remains in hospital until suitable facilitated accommodation can be found for himself and his family.

WEB SITE

The new web site is now nearing completion and is currently available at www.dunbar-golfclub.com. There are still some modifications required and these will happen very soon. Modifications include a results page for men, ladies and junior competitions, a live web booking system and many more. Anyone who would like to make suggestions can do so by contacting the office.

PITCH MARKS

Pitch marks continue to be a serious problem on the greens and despite regular reminders; members are still not repairing them at all or are repairing them the wrong way. Yet again here is a picture describing the correct way to repair a pitch mark – “Cum on – don’t be a p*** repair your mark.”

TEAM

The Winter League is now complete and the final standings are below, the team now look forward to the winter league stroke play event which is being hosted at Dunbar on 23 March and the County Cup which is also being hosted at Dunbar this year in June.
